Mission of EuroChicago

EuroChicago is a non-profit organization whose objective is to promote European spirit and culture in the City of Chicago and its surrounding communities.

A few people of European heritage now residing in Chicago and its environs have created the framework of a social and cultural organization named EuroChicago. The founders want to help promote European culture, spirit, and life style in Chicago and vicinity; and at the same time help European Union (EU) members meet and exchange ideas projects while coincidentally transcending old traditional citizenship boundaries.

The initial and fundamental rationale for EuroChicago is the strong awareness of belonging to a dynamic new community while bringing into it a two thousand year historical and cultural heritage, together with the desire and willingness to reaffirm our European culture in a global world. A large majority of EU citizens who reside in the Chicago area feel the need to clearly identify themselves as European first, in parallel with their own particular national origin and citizenship.

EuroChicago is a non-political organization. Membership is offered to citizens of the 25 constituent member countries of the EU. Sponsorship is not required to anyone wishing to become a member. The only requisite for full membership is a European heritage and an interest in Europe. EuroChicago also welcomes anyone who wishes to expand his interest in European culture and spirit.

EuroChicago will serve as an information and communications channel regarding forthcoming local and national activities and events of interest to Europeans. There will be also helpful tips, ideas and suggestions to Euro-expatriate about day-to-day living and life in big, beautiful and wondrous Chicago, with particular emphasis on local habits, customs, legends and traditions.

EuroChicago will use newsletters, mailings, e-mail and a website to communicate with its member and to publicize its efforts. EuroChicago helps Europeans and Americans meet each other for business and/or private and social purposes. In order to facilitate communication fostering this cultural exchange, meetings and events will be organized on a regular basis where non-members may also be invited.
